Old Ruts 26 - 27 LCRFC Dukes......The late late show

The Dukes left it late to secure a second away victory in as many weeks. In a frantic opening period Old Ruts took the lead arguably against the run of play. However the Dukes pack were in no mood to be given the run around and bullied the opposition pack into submission with a fantastic catch and drive inside the Old Ruts 22 after Charlie Linard claimed and excellent line-out.

Old Ruts seemed to be having more than a little luck when they again took the lead with an interception try. Once again though the Dukes pack didn't take this laying down and pushed the scrum into an ideal position for number 8 Tom Acton to score.

After half time Old Ruts scored two tries quick succession to put themselves in a commanding position. However these days the Dukes seem to made of stronger stuff and kept in touch through two quick tries. After a late scare the pack again dragged Cornish forward and after failing to convert a first attempt after excellent work by Alex Harris, Charlie Linard and man of the match Tim Smyth, the Dukes worked and opening and snatched the winning points!

The cherry on top of this performance came in the dying seconds when one of the Old Ruts centres, picked up the ball and kicked it out thinking he had ended the game with victory for his team only to be greeted by cheers and amused laughter from the Cornish bench, realising his error he slumped to the ground hoping it would open up for him!
